I’m kind of in a pickle here. I work for two restaurants owned by the same company and I’m a full-time hourly employee in GA. Is it even legal for them to have me on two separate payrolls just to avoid paying me overtime? Anyone dealt with this before?
That sounds rough. I’ve heard of similar situations but idk the legal details. Have you talked to HR?

Yeah, try talking to HR. They should have the info you need.

I did that once and it helped clear things up a lot. Just be careful.
I think it’s not legal, but you might want to check state laws. Georgia’s got some tricky rules.

What do you mean by tricky? Like, can they really do that?

Yeah, some companies try to get around paying overtime by doing stuff like this. Definitely worth looking into.
I’ve had a similar issue before. They can’t just split your hours to avoid paying overtime. That’s not cool.

Good to know. What did you end up doing?

I ended up filing a complaint. It took some time, but I got my overtime pay.
That’s definitely something to look into. You might want to consult a labor lawyer if it gets messy.

What exactly does a labor lawyer do? IDK much about that.

They help with employment issues and can guide you on your rights. Worth checking out if needed.
