Is it normal to use sick hours when salaried?

I have a question about being salaried. I’ve got to use my vacation or sick hours if I want to take a day off, but when I work over 40 hours, payroll says it’s all ‘included.’ Seems kinda off to me. Anyone else in this boat?

That sounds frustrating. I think it’s pretty common for salaried folks to deal with that. But yeah, it feels unfair sometimes…

Right? Like, why can’t they give us some flex hours? It would make things so much easier.

IDK, it seems like they should at least offer something for the extra hours. Have you talked to HR about it?

Not yet… what would I even say? lol

Just ask about the policy on flex hours. You might get some clarity.

I think it’s legal, but it’s definitely not fair. Salared roles can be tricky like that…

What do you mean by tricky? Like, they can change the rules anytime?

Exactly. There are a lot of gray areas with salary structures. Just makes it confusing.

Yeah, I used to feel the same way. You could try keeping track of your hours and see if it helps in discussions with payroll.

Good idea. I might start doing that too. Just to have my facts straight.

Honestly, I’ve heard of folks getting paid for extra hours when they push past 40. Maybe it depends on the company?

What? I thought that’s not how it works for salaried jobs? Can you explain?

Sure. Some companies have policies that allow for overtime pay even if you’re salaried, but it’s rare. Better to check.
