Is it possible to get my license un-suspended after moving out of state?

I had my license suspended in New Jersey because of an issue with updating my insurance address when I moved to Illinois. The suspension happened after I left NJ, and I’ve been trying to sort it out, but no one at NJ MVC is responding. Has anyone been in a similar situation and been able to get their license un-suspended after moving out of state? Not sure what my next steps should be, and I travel internationally a lot so it’s hard to handle this. Any help would be appreciated!

That’s so frustrating! I’ve had issues with the MVC too, but if you’ve already paid the reinstatement fee, I think you’re on the right track. Have you tried reaching out to Illinois about this too? They may need to know you’ve taken care of NJ’s end.

Same thing happened to me! My license got suspended after I moved, and they didn’t tell me about the insurance change. But once I paid the fine and sent in all the required docs, it got sorted out in about 4 weeks. Maybe give that a try?

Hey, IDK if this helps, but when I had a similar issue with NJ, I found that contacting a third-party DMV service sped things up. They’ve got connections with both state agencies and can act on your behalf if you travel a lot.

So, if I understand correctly, your NJ suspension is cleared, but Illinois canceled your license? That’s a tricky one, but you might just need to reapply for it once NJ clears the suspension. Don’t stress too much, it should work out.

It might take a couple of months to clear everything, especially with the international travel. Maybe consider getting a local license for now if your travel plans are long-term?
