Hey, so my Hawaii driver’s license expired today and I’m a bit worried. What should I do now? I know it’s too late to renew online today, so should I just go to the DMV first thing in the morning? Anyone know if I’ll be able to drive if I wait a bit to renew it or should I do it ASAP?
I had this happen last year. In Hawaii, you get a grace period of up to a year, but you can’t drive until you renew it. Just make sure to get to the DMV soon so you don’t run into any issues!

Yeah, that grace period is nice but it’s tough because you can’t drive in the meantime. It’s definitely better to go ASAP.
I think you’ll have to go in person to renew it, and they might need some documents. Just check the county DMV requirements. I’d go early to avoid a long wait!

Thanks! I’ll make sure to bring all the documents they need. I guess I’ll just hope there’s no crazy line 
If you let it go over a year expired, you’ll need to retake the tests. So don’t wait too long! But you’ve got up to a year, so you’ve got some time.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize it could expire for a year. That makes me feel better about waiting a few days if I need to.
Just FYI, you can’t drive while your license is expired, even with the grace period. So get it renewed ASAP if you plan to drive anytime soon.

Ah, that’s a bummer… I was hoping I could make it until tomorrow. I guess I’ll need to wait until it’s renewed. Thanks for the heads up!
You’ll have to pass a vision test when you renew too, so make sure you’re ready for that! Also, check for any fees based on your age or county. Good luck!
