I lost my wallet and now I can’t find my driver’s license. I don’t have my birth certificate either, but I do know my license number. Is there any way I can get a new license with just that info? Anyone know what the process is?
Yeah, I had a similar issue last year. As long as you have the license number, they can usually help you get a new one. You might also need other forms of ID like a passport or your social security card. You should check with your DMV or local office.
@Jody
Ooh, I didn’t know you could use a passport too. Good to know! I thought you had to have everything in order before getting a new one.
I’ve heard it depends on where you live. For example, in Erie County, Ohio, you can request a duplicate driver’s license by going to a Deputy Registrar’s office. It costs $26, and you can schedule an appointment online.
@Steve
Oh, nice! That’s exactly where I’m at. Thanks for the tip. I’ll check the site.
Just FYI, if you’ve lost your driver’s license, you might need to provide proof of identity in addition to the license number. If they can’t verify you, they may ask for another document like a social security card or utility bill with your name on it.
@Frost
Got it! That makes sense. Thanks for the heads-up!
I think most states have an online option now to replace a lost or stolen driver’s license. I’d check your state’s DMV or motor vehicle website, they usually have all the steps listed there.
I know in some places, you can even get a temporary license until your replacement arrives. Not sure if Erie County offers that, but it might be worth asking when you go to schedule your appointment.

Oh, that would be awesome if they do! I’ll ask when I schedule my appointment. Thanks!
