I lost my handicap parking placard about a month ago. I haven’t reported it to anyone yet. It’s a Handicap Parking Placard from California. What should I do to get a replacement?
First thing you gotta do is report it to the issuing agency. That’s usually DMV in California for handicap placards. Have you done that yet?

Yeah, you definitely need to report it. If you don’t, you might get in trouble if someone else uses it.

Right, definitely report it so you’re not liable if someone uses it illegally.
If you haven’t reported it yet, it might be worth doing that ASAP. I think you can do it online too, so you don’t even need to go in person.

Yeah, they usually let you do it online. Just go to the DMV website for the replacement process.
Oh, I had to replace mine a few months ago. It was a pretty simple process online. Just make sure to have your ID and maybe a doctor’s note if they ask for it.

Good to know, I wasn’t sure if I needed a doctor’s note. I’ll keep that in mind when I apply for my replacement.
If you haven’t called or checked with the DMV yet, they might send you a new one once you report it. It might take a little while though, so don’t wait too long.

Yeah, it might take a couple weeks for them to process it. I’d say give it a little more time and check with them online if you don’t hear anything.
Also, you should keep an eye on your parking habits while you’re waiting for the replacement. Try not to park in spots meant for handicap parking without the placard.

Good point. You don’t want to risk a ticket while waiting for the new one. I made sure to avoid using those spots until mine arrived.
