So my 16-year-old daughter got placed in 3 college-level classes without me even knowing or agreeing to it. She’s not struggling with the workload, and it’s affecting her mentally. Now the school is saying they can’t change her schedule. I’m really stressed about it. Anyone know what I can do to get her into a more appropriate program?
Ugh, that sucks. I’d suggest meeting with the school ASAP to discuss her situation. If her mental health is really suffering, they should listen. Have you tried asking for an IEP or 504 plan? That could help with accommodations.
@Will
Yeah, exactly! And if you’ve got a mental health professional’s opinion on it, that could really back up your case. They have to consider the mental side of things too.

For sure! If they’re still being difficult, maybe escalate it to the superintendent. Schools can be tricky about these things, but your daughter’s health should come first.
That sounds really frustrating! I’d start with getting everything in writing from the school about why she was placed in those classes. And if they’re saying no to changing her schedule, ask them for their formal policy on schedule changes.
@Jamie
Good point! It’ll be easier to push back if you’ve got all that info. Schools can’t just ignore the rules.
You definitely need to advocate for her. I know it’s tough, but if the school won’t budge, consider talking to a lawyer who knows education law. There are laws in place for situations like this.

Do you mean a lawyer who specializes in education law? How do I find someone like that?
@Bailey
Yep, exactly! You can search for one online or ask for a referral from someone in your area. A lot of them offer free consultations to see if it’s worth pursuing.
Sorry to hear your daughter is going through this. Maybe getting a mental health evaluation from a psychologist could really help show how stressed she is. It could push the school to take action.

Yeah, I agree. If the mental health angle is presented, they might take it more seriously. Definitely worth a shot.
Honestly, I’d just keep pushing them. Schools can be hard to work with, but if you’ve got everything documented and can show how this is affecting her, they’ll have to do something eventually.

True, just don’t give up! Sometimes they need a little extra pressure to get things moving. Hope it works out for you!
