My husband lost his wallet... how can he get a new driver’s license?

So, my husband lost his wallet about 3 weeks ago and still can’t find it. He needs a new driver’s license, but we haven’t contacted the DMV or anything yet. Anyone know what we should do next? :grimacing: Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry to hear about that! You can replace the license online in most states. Does he know his license number? Some DMVs even let you do it right away if you have a few other details like SSN.

Yeah, you can just go to your state’s DMV website and look for ‘Replace Lost License’ or something similar. It’s super easy once you have everything.

@Zariah
Oh, nice! He definitely knows his license number, so I’ll have him check that out. Thanks! :pray:

If online replacement isn’t an option, you can go to the DMV in person with proof of identity. I’ve had to do that before. They usually give you a temp license while you wait for the new one.

Got it, thanks! We’ll check online first but it’s good to know the in-person option too. :blush:

Also, make sure he reports it as lost if he hasn’t already. Some DMVs recommend reporting it to the police too, just in case anyone tries to misuse his info.

Yeah, that’s a good point. Identity theft can be a big risk with lost cards, so it’s best to be cautious.

@James
He’ll definitely report it. We’ll be more careful going forward, thanks for the heads up! :sweat_smile:

If your husband’s credit cards were in the wallet, don’t forget to cancel them and keep an eye on the accounts for unusual activity.

Oh, right! I didn’t think of that. We’ll make sure to call the bank too. Thanks for the reminder! :blush:

And if it was a state-issued ID, you might need to show proof of residence too when getting the replacement, like a utility bill.

Good to know, I’ll make sure he has that ready. Thanks for the tip!
