Aloha! So my neighbor put up a fence, but it’s not right on the property line—it’s like 15 feet in. Just wondering, does that mean she can still come over and plant things in that space?
Yep, as long as the land between the fence and property line is hers, she can do whatever on it! Planting’s fine.

Oh, got it! So even if it’s outside the fence but still her land, she’s good to go?
@Lopez
Exactly! The fence doesn’t change her property line.
Is this in Hawaii by any chance? My friend had a similar thing happen.

Yep, this is in Hawaii. Wondering if there’s anything unique here with property lines.

For sure! But generally, the property line matters more than where the fence is.
FYI, the fence location doesn’t affect property ownership. It’s just a structure inside her property.

Thanks, that clears things up. So the deed description is what really counts here?
@Lopez
Yep, exactly! Just go by the deed to know who owns what.
If she tries planting on your side, though, that’s a different story!

Haha, true! Guess she can’t plant outside her property no matter where the fence is.

Exactly! Just make sure the boundary is clear to avoid any confusion.
IDK why people put fences so far inside their line, lol. But yeah, she can still use her land outside it.

Right? It’s so far in! Guess she just likes her space.

Maybe! Or just a quirky boundary thing, haha.
