Random Call Saying I was being Served...?

I just got a call out of the blue saying I was getting served. She wanted my initial name spelled incorrectly but in a comparable way.

She provided me with a lawsuit Number but withheld the court’s location and the identity of the person bringing the lawsuit against me. She only provided me with a case number and a phone number. Nothing more. She also didn’t have an email address or a website to give.

At this point, what should I do?

How can I tell whether this is a legitimate business and not just a bogus scam?

Scam. This type of notice would not be handled by phone, only in writing. Give her NO information.

What’s your location?

Ignore for now, unless you can think of a likely reason you’re being sued in which case maybe prepare for it. Service has to be in person.

I am an attorney. This is not how service occurs. There is no service by phone.

You will either be served in person by a court officer (like a deputy) or, more commonly in my experience, by mail. It’s generally best not to respond.
