Hey everyone, I got a red light camera ticket while renting a car in California. I already paid the processing fee from Hertz, but IDK what to do next about the ticket itself. Should I pay it, try to contest, or ignore it? I don’t live in CA, so I’m not sure what ignoring it would mean for me. I’ve seen some people say the city doesn’t enforce these, but I also don’t want points on my license. Anyone know what the best move is here?
I had a similar situation a while back. If you pay it, it’s like admitting guilt, so points could be added to your record. You could try contesting if you think there’s a chance.

Yeah, I was told contesting could work if there’s a reason to doubt the ticket. Do they need a clear pic of you driving?
@Kellan
There is a clear picture, unfortunately… does that mean contesting probably wouldn’t help?
@Kellan
Probably not, since they have proof it was you. But if you have time, contesting could still be worth a shot just to avoid the points.
If you pay, your insurance could go up. Depends on the company and if they forgive minor stuff. Check your policy to be sure.

Good idea, I’ll check my policy. I didn’t think about the insurance impact… thanks!
Ignoring it is risky… they could suspend your license if it’s unpaid. You might want to handle it to avoid that.

Yeah, I think that’s what happens even if you’re from out of state. Ignoring it could just lead to more issues.

Didn’t know they could suspend my license! Guess I really should take care of it. Thanks for the heads-up!
You’ll probably get something in the mail soon with the fine amount and your options. They usually give you a deadline.

Okay, I’ll wait for that then. Just didn’t want to miss something important. Appreciate the help!
Just pay it if you’re worried about points. CA isn’t very lenient with out-of-state tickets, and contesting might just be more of a hassle if you live far away.

Agree with this… paying might just be the easiest way out if you don’t want it to drag on.
