Roommate selling my stuff online... legal advice?

Back in early September, I had to leave the house where I rented a room because my roommates got super aggressive and even made threats. Now, I can’t safely go back to get my things because they’re still around, and one of them, Kelly, has been selling my stuff online! He’s using Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, and I’m honestly over it. If I send in a friend to buy something back from him (and record it), would that help prove he’s stolen my stuff?

Whoa, that’s crazy! Has Kelly sold a lot of your stuff already?

Yeah, it’s wild. He’s been selling both my things and even stuff belonging to the landlord’s boyfriend. Just found a listing the other day.

Doesn’t sound legal at all! Have you considered reporting it to the police?

That recording idea could be useful. If you catch him in the act of selling your stuff, it might help with a theft report.

Exactly what I’m thinking. A friend could pose as a buyer and record the whole interaction.

Just make sure your friend doesn’t get caught up in anything sketchy! This guy sounds unpredictable.

Did you already try calling the police for a civil standby so you can get your stuff?

Yeah, I did once, but they only gave me 10-15 mins. Not enough time to grab everything, unfortunately.

Ugh, that’s frustrating. Can’t they do more to help if you explain everything he’s been up to?

Could you try reaching out to the landlord too? Maybe they could help you access the place safely.

The landlord knows, but her hands are kinda tied. Kelly even attacked her boyfriend recently. They’re both dealing with him too.

This guy sounds like a real piece of work. I hope you can get some justice here.

So, he’s got 7 days left before he’s officially out? Could you try waiting until then to go in and get your things?

Yeah, I’m hoping once he’s gone, I can get what’s left. Just don’t know how much he’s sold already.

Hopefully he hasn’t trashed or sold too much by then. Fingers crossed for you!
