My daughter is a bit behind in school, and her teacher wants her to work through all recesses and lunch breaks to catch up. It doesn’t feel fair, and I’m wondering if there are any rules in Jackson County, OR, that prevent this. Anyone else dealt with a similar situation?
That sounds like a lot for a kid. Schools should allow for breaks even if they’re behind. Maybe the school’s policies or state regulations have something on this?

Thanks, I’ll look into it. Just feels like she’s missing out on the social aspect too.
Have you tried talking to the principal or superintendent? Sometimes they’re open to alternative solutions for kids who work at a different pace.

Good idea! I’ve only spoken to her teacher so far. Might be worth bringing it up with the administration.
You could request an evaluation to see if she qualifies for any accommodations. Sometimes just a slower pace or extra support can make a difference.

I hadn’t thought about that. Might be a good approach if they keep pushing her.
If the school has strict policies about no homework, that could be why they’re making her work during breaks. Still seems like they should let her have some downtime.

Agree! Kids need those breaks. Even if she’s behind, overloading her isn’t going to help her catch up.
Maybe suggest a plan where she does some of her catch-up work at home? Schools might make exceptions if it helps reduce stress.

That’s what I suggested too, but apparently the school doesn’t allow that type of work to be done at home.
