Hey, I’m dealing with a situation involving our truck driver. He was driving a truck with a trailer in Cambridge, MA (where the streets are super narrow, btw), and while making a right turn, he carefully passed a few cars. The car in front moved to the right to give more space, but the car behind didn’t adjust. Now the driver of that car is asking for reimbursement for damages, but after looking at the dashcam footage, we saw that the damage was already there. Anyone know what we should do here?
Wow, sounds like a tricky situation. If you have footage showing the damage was pre-existing, that should help a lot. Definitely talk to a lawyer about the footage. If the other driver is being dishonest, they might be liable for trying to make a false claim.
@Val
Yeah, the footage is clear. It shows the damage before our truck even got close. Do you think the lawyer could help us dismiss the claim?
Honestly, I’d get a lawyer involved ASAP. If the dashcam footage shows the car was already damaged, the other driver is likely trying to scam you. A lawyer can help you push back and avoid paying for something you didn’t cause.
@Mica
Thanks! That’s exactly what I was worried about. I’ll contact one right away.
Also, make sure you send the dashcam footage to your insurance company. They’ll likely want to review it before you proceed with any reimbursement claims.

Good call! I’ll make sure they get it. I’m guessing that’ll be key for them to see what actually happened.
If the other driver’s damages were already there, they might be in a tough spot. Could be that they’re trying to claim more than they deserve. Keep the footage and any other evidence you have.

Yeah, we have a good amount of evidence. Hopefully that’s enough to clear up the situation.
You could also reach out to the city or local authorities. Since this happened on narrow streets in a congested area, they might have records or reports that could support your side of the story.

I didn’t even think of that! I’ll look into it and see if there’s anything helpful from the local authorities.
