I was verbally banned from my daughter’s school back in September. They told me I couldn’t come on campus, attend her senior night, or even her graduation. I was supposed to get a certified letter about it by September 20th, but nothing has shown up. I’ve tried to talk to the principal, but he wouldn’t listen and said he has ‘proof’ of what happened, though I haven’t seen anything. I haven’t been able to find a local education lawyer who can help. Anyone dealt with something like this or know what steps I could take next?
That sounds really frustrating. Have you tried contacting the school district or the superintendent? They might be able to review the ban.

I haven’t reached out to the superintendent directly yet. Was thinking that might be the next step since the principal isn’t responding.

I think going over the principal’s head is a good move. Sometimes the district can be more open to hearing you out.
If they promised a written notice and you didn’t get it, that could be important. Maybe a demand letter requesting documentation would help.

That’s a good point. They said it would be sent but I still haven’t gotten anything. Thanks for the suggestion!

You can find templates for demand letters online or even through legal sites. Might save some time if you don’t get a response soon.
Maybe gather those witness statements from students and your husband. If you decide to take it up with the district, that could help support your side.

Good idea! I have people who were there and can back me up. I’ll start getting statements together.
Is there any way you could find an education attorney outside of your area who could advise remotely? Might be easier than finding local help.

That’s a thought… I didn’t think of looking for someone outside the area but who could still help. Thanks!
If the principal claims to have proof, they should be able to share it. Maybe in your demand letter, ask to see the evidence they have?

I definitely want to see it. I’ll ask for them to provide it in the letter, thanks for the advice!

And if they refuse to show it, that’s kind of suspicious. Definitely worth pressing them for it.
