Question about child abandonment and relinquishing rights in Texas

I have a 2-year-old daughter whose biological father has never seen her and doesn’t legally pay child support. He occasionally sends $150 every other week but never asks about her. He lives 8 hours away, is married, and his wife doesn’t know about my daughter. He hasn’t sent any birthday presents, cards, or Christmas gifts. He essentially ran when I told him I was pregnant.

I want to terminate his parental rights, but I’ve heard that Texas is reluctant to do so because a child is considered to need a father. Is this true? There’s no father listed on the birth certificate. While I would like financial support for my daughter, I am willing to forgo child support to avoid potential visitation or custody claims. My priority is to keep him out of our lives. He still contacts me because he wants to talk to me, not because he cares about our daughter. When I mention child support, he says he doesn’t need the stress.

I am a single mom raising her alone, and I don’t care about his money anymore. Can I terminate his rights due to child abandonment? If not, what are my options? Any advice is appreciated

I should add that he doesn’t want pictures of her because it’s “too hard for him to look at.”

I’m fairly certain that in Texas, child abandonment is defined as having no contact and providing no financial assistance for 6 months. For more detailed information, consulting with an attorney is always a good idea.
