What do I do if my car insurance claim got denied... anyone else had this issue?

So I wrecked my car and called to make a claim, but the insurance company told me I only had liability when I thought I had full coverage the whole time. I’m financing the vehicle and was told I needed full coverage, so I made sure to let them know I was making payments when I signed up. Now they’re saying I didn’t verify the documents. I also called Gap insurance, and they denied my claim too because the repair cost is $15,000, and they said my car is worth $23,000. They said it needs to be at or over that amount, so now I’m stuck with a $15k repair bill and no help. Anyone been through something similar? IDK what to do now…

Ugh, I’ve been there. My insurance did the same thing when I thought I had full coverage too. Honestly, I’d say it’s worth fighting. Have you tried appealing yet?

Appealing is definitely the way to go. If you’ve got paperwork showing you were making payments, that should help your case. What state are you in?

@Jai
I’m in Oregon City, Oregon. Just wondering if there’s a specific agency I should contact about the insurance dispute.

Sorry to hear that! I had a similar issue with my Gap insurance. They undervalued my car too. I ended up gathering proof of the market value and fought back. You could try doing that.

That’s a good idea. I didn’t even think of comparing with local prices. Thanks!

I’ve had issues with insurance companies not covering full damage before. Honestly, they’ll try to get out of paying. Maybe also file a complaint with the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation? That can sometimes speed things up.

@Jaime
Oh, I didn’t even know about that! I’ll check that out. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, insurance companies are the worst about this kind of stuff. They always find a way to mess up your coverage or deny claims. Definitely keep pushing back!

I don’t know if this will help, but you might want to double-check your policy for any fine print that could’ve been missed. It could be a loophole they’re using.

That’s a solid idea. I’ll go over the documents again and see if I missed anything. Appreciate it!
