What happens if I get caught driving on a suspended license for the second time?

I got caught driving on a suspended license for the second time in Illinois. I’ve already been to court for the first offense and got a fine. What are the consequences this time? I’m really worried about losing my license again. Is there anything I can do to lessen the blow before my court date in November?

Yikes, that’s a tough situation. In Illinois, a second offense could be a class A misdemeanor, so there might be some jail time involved. But don’t freak out just yet. Have you submitted proof of insurance to the court?

@Gael
Yeah, proof of insurance might help you out with the first suspension. Might be worth trying if you haven’t already.

Are you worried about jail time or just the license? If you were driving for an urgent reason, bringing proof of that could help your case.

Yeah, I just don’t want to lose my license again. I haven’t submitted proof of insurance yet, but I’ll try that.

I’ve been in a similar boat, and it’s stressful. Definitely talk to a lawyer if you haven’t already. They can guide you through all this.

I’m definitely going to talk to one, just trying to get as much info as possible before then. Thanks!

The court might be more lenient if you show that your driving was for an emergency. If that’s the case, bring all the proof you can!

Did you check if you can get your license reinstated after the first offense? That might help with the second one too. Good luck!
