What is the procedure of Obtaining Sangamon County Death Certificates?

Hi Peeps,

I’m trying to obtain a death certificate from Sangamon County, Illinois, but I’m not sure where to start. Can someone guide me on how to request Sangamon County death certificates? What are the requirements, fees, and process involved in obtaining these certificates? Any tips or experiences from those who have gone through this process would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help…

Death certificates are exclusively accessible to individuals who have a property or personal right stake in the deceased; they are not public records. Your request must be accompanied by a letter or document from the official or agency that requires the death certificate if you are not the deceased person’s related. Only those who are permitted will get certificates from the Springfield City Clerk’s Office. Because vital records are not regarded as public information, they are exempt from the Freedom of Information Act’s provisions. Additionally, death records are available from the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Division of Vital Records, or the county clerk’s office of the county in which the death occurred. There will not be any information shared over
