What to do if my ex wants a restraining order...?

I have a situation with my ex-wife, and I’m not sure what to expect. We divorced in 2019 after being married for only a few months. Fast forward to this year, I accidentally added her on Facebook while showing someone her profile (I was trying to put a face to my story for them). My girlfriend pointed it out later, so I immediately unadded and blocked her everywhere.

Now my ex is saying she’s going to her attorney to file a restraining order and notify the Navy. We haven’t had any legal issues since the divorce. The last time I spoke to her before this was three years ago when I asked about our divorce papers. I’ve done nothing but block her on everything since that accidental add.

Should I be worried? Anyone been through something like this?

If there’s no history of threats or repeated contact, I think you’re in the clear. Sounds like an overreaction on her part.

That’s what I was thinking too. I mean, it was literally an accident, and I blocked her immediately after.

Yeah, accidentally adding someone isn’t exactly a crime lol. Unless there’s more she’s not saying?

Not that I know of. We barely had any contact since the divorce, so it’s weird she’s going this far.

Does your ex have any specific incidents she could be using for this? Sounds like she’s grasping at straws.

Honestly, I don’t think so. The only thing is that Facebook incident, and before that, we hadn’t spoken in years.

If there’s no pattern of harassment or threats, she’d have a hard time proving her case, I think.

Do you know what happens if she tries to notify the Navy? Could it mess with your career?

No clue. She hasn’t said anything official about it yet, but it’s stressing me out thinking about it.

You should talk to someone in legal on base just to cover your bases. Better to be proactive.

Did she actually file anything yet, or is it just talk for now?

So far, it’s just talk. She told my girlfriend she’s going to her attorney, but I haven’t gotten anything formal.

Until you get an official notice, don’t stress too much. People say a lot of things they don’t follow through on.

Sounds like she’s trying to stir drama. Maybe she’s upset about something else and lashing out?

Possibly. It’s just confusing because we’ve had zero issues for years.

Could also be her way of feeling like she’s in control. Some people just want to push buttons.
