Will I get in trouble for not calling the police after being sideswiped by an 18-wheeler?

So, I was sideswiped by an 18-wheeler last night, but I didn’t call the police. The truck didn’t stop either. I kept hoping the driver would come back, but no luck. Now I’m wondering if I’m going to get into trouble for not reporting it. Anyone know what I should do?

I’m sorry to hear that! In GA, if there’s damage over $500 or any injury, you gotta report it to the cops. Since it was a hit-and-run, you might need to file a report soon. Better safe than sorry, IMO.

Yeah, exactly! The sooner you report it, the better. It could also help with insurance stuff.

Totally, and even if the driver didn’t stop, it’s good to have everything on record in case it comes up later.

That sounds rough. But don’t worry, I think if you call the police now and report it, they won’t come down hard on you. Just get it on record ASAP.

I’m in the same boat, I was involved in a hit-and-run a while ago. Just reported it after a few days, and they didn’t seem to mind too much.

I think you’re fine, but you really should call them anyway. It’s better to have the incident officially recorded. Plus, it’ll help with the insurance process.

Exactly, reporting it now won’t hurt. It’s better to cover all your bases.

I get how you feel. I’ve had some bad experiences with local police too. But in this case, I’d still suggest you report it—especially since it was a hit-and-run.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. It’s just hard when you feel like they won’t take it seriously. But, honestly, reporting it should give you peace of mind.

I know it sucks, but I would report it for sure. Even if the cops aren’t great, it’ll help you in the long run.

I agree, just report it. It’s a good move for your own protection, and it keeps things official.
