Will my speeding ticket in Washington impact my Canadian driving record?

I’m a Canadian BC driving license holder and I was at fault in a no-injury accident in Washington state. I also got a speeding ticket (48.61.400.1). I’m wondering: 1. Will this affect my Canadian driving record? I work as a driver so I’m concerned about that. 2. Will this cause problems when crossing the U.S. border? 3. Should I contest the ticket or just pay it? Any advice would be super helpful!

Hey, I had a similar situation before. I’m in BC too, and I got a speeding ticket in the States. My BC record wasn’t affected, but I would definitely check with ICBC just to be sure.

Yeah, agreed. ICBC will be the best to confirm. My speeding ticket didn’t transfer, but I had to pay it off or it could have caused border issues.

@Frost
Right, the unpaid tickets can mess with crossing the border. Better to just pay it if it’s minor, unless you have a solid reason to fight it.

I don’t think it’ll affect your border crossing, but I agree that you should deal with it. If you don’t pay, it could cause delays down the line.

I’d recommend paying it off. If it’s not a major offense, I don’t think it’ll show up on your record in BC. But always good to double-check with ICBC!

If you don’t contest the ticket, make sure you pay it soon. I’ve had issues with getting denied entry to the U.S. before because of unpaid tickets.

You can contest the ticket if you think there’s a good chance to get it reduced or dropped, but if you’re unsure, just pay it and move on. It’s more about avoiding complications later.

To be on the safe side, pay the ticket. If you’re just starting in Canada, this could help avoid any issues with your record and future travels. You don’t want surprises later!
