A travel agent got me into school with a fake transcript... what now?

So, long story short, a travel agent got me into a school, but I later found out he submitted a fake transcript instead of my real one. I stopped attending after I discovered this because I didn’t want to continue under those circumstances. Now I want to go back to school. I’ve got my original transcript evaluated by WES, and I have a copy of it. Can I resolve this with my school? I’m nervous about telling them—any advice?

That’s a tough spot to be in. Did you tell the school about the fake transcript back when you found out?

No, I just stopped attending. I was too scared to say anything at the time.

If you didn’t report it, it might actually be easier to explain now. Honesty is your best bet.

What’s WES? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Not dumb at all! WES is a service that evaluates international transcripts to make sure they’re legit.

Oh, gotcha. That’s good you had your original transcript verified! Should help your case a lot.

I think the school will appreciate you coming forward now rather than them finding out later. Did you complete any semesters before stopping?

Yeah, I finished the first semester before realizing what had happened.

Then just be upfront about that. It’s clear you didn’t know at first and stopped once you found out.

Are you worried the school might penalize you for the fake transcript even though it wasn’t your fault?

Yeah, that’s what I’m nervous about. I don’t want to get in trouble for something I didn’t do.

From what I know, as long as you explain everything and provide your real transcript, it should be fine. They’d rather you clarify than let it linger.

Sounds stressful, but it’s good you’re ready to handle this now. Did you already schedule a meeting with the school?

Not yet, but I plan to go tomorrow and explain everything. Fingers crossed!

Good luck! Just stay calm and honest—they’ll probably respect you for clearing it up.
