Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out if I qualify for benefits related to my service in Vietnam. I heard I might be eligible for compensation due to Agent Orange exposure. This is my first time applying, and I live in Matteson, IL. Does anyone know the process or have advice?
If you served in Vietnam between 1962 and 1975, the VA presumes exposure to Agent Orange. Did you serve during that time?

Yeah, I was there in the late '60s. Does that automatically qualify me?
@Noah
It helps! You’ll also need to check if you have any health conditions linked to Agent Orange. The VA has a list of them.
I just went through this process. You’ll need to gather your service and medical records. Do you know which conditions are on the list?

Not sure… where can I find the list?
@Noah
Check the VA website—they update it often. Conditions like diabetes and some cancers are included.
@Noah
FYI, the list also includes Parkinson’s and ischemic heart disease. Hope that helps!
It’s a long process sometimes. Be ready for a VA exam. They’ll review your condition and service details.

Good to know. What’s that exam like?

They’ll assess your health and how it connects to Agent Orange exposure. Just bring all your documentation!
Get a VA-accredited rep or VSO to help. They know the process inside out and make it less stressful.

Thanks! What’s a VSO, btw?

Oh, sorry! It’s a Veterans Service Organization. They help vets apply for benefits for free.
Don’t forget to respond to any VA requests quickly. It helps move the process along.

Will do! Hopefully, it doesn’t take forever to hear back.
