I recently got a speeding ticket, but I know I wasn’t speeding. The thing is, I didn’t even get pulled over. They just sent me a letter saying I got two tickets, but I only have one letter for now. I drive safely, especially since I have a 3-year-old, and I’ve never had a speeding ticket before. I’m thinking maybe the camera caught me going downhill, which isn’t fair, right? Any tips on how to convince the judge that this is all a mistake? I want to show I’m a good driver, served in the military, and even have a perfect score on my USAA driving app. Anyone been in a similar situation or have advice for presenting a solid case?
I think you’re on the right track! First, definitely question the camera setup, especially if it was on a hill. That could mess with the speed readings, and you can ask to see the calibration records for the machine. If they can’t provide them, that might help your case.
@Storm
Yeah, exactly! I think it’s unfair that the hill could affect the speed like that. I’ll definitely ask about the calibration. Thanks for the tip!
Definitely emphasize your clean driving record and personal circumstances. Your military background and the fact that you drive safely for your kid’s sake should help the judge see you’re not the type to speed. Be calm, respectful, and stick to the facts. It’ll make you come across as trustworthy.
@Neve
I’ll definitely highlight those points. I just want the judge to understand where I’m coming from. Hopefully, they’ll see I’m not a risk on the road.
It’s a good idea to ask for video evidence too, especially if it shows your brake lights. If you can prove you were being cautious, that’ll make your case even stronger.

Oh, I didn’t even think about asking for video! That’s a great suggestion. If they have it, it could really show I wasn’t speeding.
Make sure you stay calm and don’t get too emotional in front of the judge. Stick to the facts and make sure to mention everything that supports your claim, like the hill, your clean driving record, and your military service.
@Tatum
Good point! I’ll keep it calm and focused. Don’t want to sound defensive, just want to show the facts.
Maybe ask the judge if they would consider a defensive driving course if they don’t drop the tickets. It could help lower the fine or prevent insurance hikes.

That’s a solid idea. If they don’t drop the tickets, a course might be a good compromise. I’ll bring it up!
