My husband’s in the military, and he’s filed for divorce. We talked about spousal support, but it’s been really tense lately. He agreed to $1700/month initially, but I think I’m eligible for more. Has anyone been through this? Any advice on what I should do next?
Yeah, I went through something similar. If you need more support, you might be able to petition for it. Courts will sometimes make them pay your legal fees if you can’t afford a lawyer too.

Oh, I didn’t know the court could help with legal fees. I’ll look into that! Thanks for the tip.
If he’s military, you might be able to go through his command if he’s being difficult. They could make him cover 1/3 of his pay for support.

Really? Didn’t know they could step in like that. I might have to reach out if things don’t improve.

Yep! It’s a thing in the military. They don’t want their people leaving families without support.
If you made an agreement but didn’t get it notarized, it won’t be enforceable in court. You’ll probably want to see a lawyer for a proper agreement.

Oh no, I thought our signed paper would be enough. Guess I’ll need to make it official then.
Courts can order spousal support if your spouse won’t agree to an amount. If he won’t budge, you should consider filing for court-ordered support.

Good to know! Filing through the court might be my only option if he keeps being uncooperative.
If funds are tight, try contacting local attorneys. Some offer payment plans or free consultations for initial advice.

That’s a great idea. Hopefully, I can find one that’ll work with me on costs!

Definitely! Also, some might take your case and have the court order your husband to cover the fees.
