Anyone else been charged for an accident they weren’t involved in?

So this happened on the highway, I was trying to take an exit, and the car beside me gave me space to take the right and exit. But then, the car slowed down in the exit lane, causing the car behind it to hit them. The thing is, I wasn’t involved in the accident, but now they’ve pressed charges against me. I was 200 meters away from the crash, still on the highway. No fault on my part. I don’t get how they can blame me for something I wasn’t even near. Anyone have advice on how to deal with this?

I think I get where you’re coming from. You weren’t even on the exit lane when it happened, right? Sounds like it’s just a misunderstanding or someone pointing fingers.

Yeah, that’s a mess. But I wonder if they’re trying to claim you were too close when the accident happened. That’s kinda common with these cases.

@Addison
I guess that could be a thing. But if you’re on the highway, I’m not sure how they can prove you were at fault. You should really talk to a lawyer.

Ugh, sounds frustrating. It seems like they might be confusing you with someone else who was closer to the accident. You should get some legal advice ASAP!

For real. You shouldn’t be held responsible for something that happened so far from you. Definitely talk to a lawyer to figure out your options.

IDK about the law, but if you weren’t involved and were far enough away, they might have no case. A good lawyer will help clear things up, though.

Exactly. The lawyer can help you understand if the charges are even valid. Don’t worry too much yet.

Are they seriously blaming you for that? Sounds like it’s all on the driver who was actually on the exit lane. Get legal help, you shouldn’t have to deal with this.

Right? It doesn’t make sense. If you’re still on the highway, how could they pin it on you? I’d definitely get a lawyer to straighten this out.

Yeah, I’m confused too. But if you weren’t close enough to the crash, how are they charging you? They might be trying to put the blame on someone far away to cover up their own mistakes. Please get legal advice ASAP!

@Uma
I agree with BCD. They might just be blaming you to cover up other issues. A lawyer can figure this all out for you!
