My mom got lured into this scam by someone named Littrel, who convinced her to invest money. They even got her credit card info to post a fake credit, then asked for PayPal payments for ‘taxes’ or ‘fees.’ After several payments, the original credit was reversed and now my mom’s out $14,000. I’m trying to figure out how to report this and get her money back. She thinks she can still negotiate with the scammer, but it’s been a month now and I just found out about all this. Anyone know what to do?
Oh wow, that’s awful. You definitely need to report it to the police for theft and elder abuse. It’s tricky with PayPal though; they don’t always reverse these types of transactions.

Yeah, I’m thinking of filing with the police today. I just really hope PayPal does something about it. It’s so frustrating that she doesn’t want to believe it’s a scam.

I get that, it’s hard when someone is so convinced. Hopefully, the police can help. Have you tried reaching out to PayPal again or disputed the charges?
@WanaLearnedPal
I did, but PayPal just kept saying there was nothing they could do. It feels like they’re not really looking into it.
I had something similar happen, but the scammer was way more aggressive. I’d recommend looking into how to find the scammer’s address so you can potentially sue them. It’s not easy though, but the police should help.

Ugh, I really hope the police can help us find something on this Kimberly person. My mom still doesn’t believe she’s being scammed, so it’s been a challenge to get her to take it seriously.
Have you tried checking their Facebook? Sounds like a typical scam where the person is using someone else’s picture. It might give you more clues to report them to the police.

Yeah, my mom actually friended Kimberly on Facebook. The picture she had was of a government official, so it’s all so sketchy. I think this person is using a fake identity.
I’m glad to hear you’ve got the police involved now. Definitely stay on top of PayPal, though—it’s a huge mess to deal with. Let me know if you need help with anything else, I’ve had to deal with PayPal’s slow response before.
@Micah
Thanks, I’ll keep pushing with PayPal. I just hope they come through, but I’m not too optimistic after how they’ve handled it so far.
This sounds like a nightmare, seriously. I hope you get everything resolved soon. Sometimes these scammers just disappear after they get what they want. Let’s hope PayPal can help out.

Yeah, I’m hoping for some good news, but I’m not holding my breath. The scammer unfriended my mom and deleted their messages already.
