I started homeschooling my daughter after we were released from truancy court, and she’s doing great now—she’s already halfway through 9th grade since starting in August. But the county and courts are still bothering me, saying I could go to jail because she’s not in a regular school. She turns 16 soon and wants to drop out because they’re stressing her out. Has anyone else had to deal with this?
That sounds rough. Did you let the school district know you switched her to homeschooling? Sometimes they need paperwork.

Yeah, I sent them all the info, and they even have a copy of her transcripts. Still getting pressure from them.

Maybe they just want to double-check things? But if they have her transcripts, that should be enough.
Did you get an accredited program? Some schools or courts only recognize certain homeschooling programs.

Yep, it’s a nationally accredited program, so I thought that’d be fine.

Sounds like you’re doing everything right. They should back off if she’s progressing.
Have you tried talking to a lawyer about this? Might be worth it just in case they keep bugging you.

I’m thinking about it, but I was hoping it wouldn’t come to that. Just seems unnecessary with her doing so well.

Sometimes just the threat of a lawyer makes people back off. Could be worth it for peace of mind.
Did you try showing them her progress? Halfway through 9th grade since August is impressive!

Yes! That’s what’s so frustrating. She’s excelling, but they won’t give us any peace.

They should see that as a good thing, not something to be upset about.
Can she legally drop out at 16 in your state? That might help the situation if she’s determined.

I think so, but I was hoping she wouldn’t feel the need to. She just wants them to leave her alone.

Maybe they’d ease up if they see her commitment to her studies. Hopefully, they come around soon.
