Anyone else dealing with military discharge delays? What can we do?

My son is enlisted in the army, and his service ends in November. He has done all the paperwork, but his superiors haven’t processed it yet. He’s followed up multiple times, but still nothing’s happening. Anyone know what steps he or I can take to get this moving?

Oh man, that’s tough! It’s good that he’s been following up, but sometimes they can be slow with these things. Did he try asking his chain of command directly for an update?

Yeah, if he hasn’t already, pushing it up the chain can help a lot. If it’s still stuck, filing a complaint with the Inspector General might get things moving.

@Harley
Yeah, the IG looks into complaints about military procedures or mishandling of paperwork. They can investigate and help get things sorted faster.

Has he checked in with the legal assistance office on base? They might be able to give him some legal guidance on how to deal with the delay.

He hasn’t yet, but that’s a good idea. I’ll suggest it to him!

There are also family support services through ACS (Army Community Service) that can help families like yours. They might be able to advocate for your son or point you to the right people.

I’ve heard of those services! They’re pretty helpful, especially with dealing with military bureaucracy. Worth a shot!

You might want to check out veterans organizations like VFW or DAV. They have a lot of resources and could possibly help with the discharge process too.

I didn’t know they could help with discharge issues. Thanks for the tip!

Good luck! Hopefully, your son gets processed soon. It sounds like he’s done everything right, so it’s just about keeping the pressure on the right people.

Thanks! I’ll keep pushing for him. Appreciate all the advice.
