So my school says I need to get the mumps follow-up vaccine, but I really don’t want to. I don’t have a medical exemption, and honestly, I’m against vaccines in general. I only got the ones when I was a kid because I had to, but now that I’m an adult, I don’t want any more. Has anyone else dealt with this? What can I do?
I feel you on this. My school had a similar policy, but I was able to get a religious exemption. Have you looked into that?

I thought about it, but I’m not religious, so I don’t think that’ll work for me. Does it still apply?

It might depend on your state. Some states are stricter about what counts as a religious exemption.
Have you considered a philosophical exemption? Some states allow those if you’re against it for personal reasons.

I’ve heard about that, but I think my state got rid of it. Do you know which states still allow it?

Yeah, not all states have it anymore. Mine doesn’t, which sucks. Definitely worth checking though.
If you can’t get an exemption, you might just have to comply. Schools enforce these for public health reasons.

I get that, but it feels unfair. Like, shouldn’t adults get to decide for themselves?

Totally get what you’re saying, but public health rules are pretty strict. It’s about protecting everyone.
You could try talking to a lawyer. They might be able to help you navigate this.

I didn’t even think of that. Do lawyers handle this kind of thing often?

Some do, especially education lawyers. They could help you understand your rights better.
