Anyone else had their car repossessed? Can I get it back if I pay all fees?

So my car got repoed because of late fees and one missed payment. I’m wondering if I can get it back if I pay all the late fees and the missed payment. Anyone know if that’s possible or have any experience with this? I’m really stressing out because my stuff is still in the car…

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that! I think in most states, you can get your car back by paying all the fees within a certain time frame, usually like 10–20 days. You might need to pay the late fees, repossession fees, and maybe even some extra charges depending on the lender. Best bet is to call them ASAP.

You shouldn’t have to pay off the whole loan. Just the late fees, missed payments, and repo fees. But yeah, you need to call them ASAP because they usually repossess cars for even one missed payment.

The key here is redemption. If you redeem the car (by paying all outstanding fees), you get the car AND all your stuff back. They can’t keep your personal items legally, so don’t worry about that.

I’ve been through this. Ohio law says you’ve got 20 days to redeem the car by paying everything, but sometimes the lender might add on extra charges like two advance payments. Make sure to check if that’s in your loan paperwork. Fingers crossed for you!

Good luck with the redemption! If you’ve been paying on time before this, they might be willing to work with you, but just be ready to pay everything as soon as possible. And yes, redemption means you get the car AND your stuff back.
