So I bought a car in Florida and registered it in Maryland, but I haven’t heard anything from the Maryland DMV yet. I sent all the paperwork from FL to MD, but it’s been a while and I’m getting worried. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing? What should I do next?
Sounds like a bit of a headache. The paperwork can take a while to process sometimes. Did you confirm with the Maryland DMV if they’ve received everything? Maybe try calling them or checking online.

I haven’t checked yet, but I might try that. I just don’t know what exactly they need from me.
I had the same issue when I moved to MD with a car from FL. They usually need proof of ownership (title/bill of sale), MCO, mileage, and emissions inspection. Make sure you have those. And don’t forget about taxes too!

Oh okay, I think I have most of that stuff. But I didn’t realize I needed an emissions inspection!

Yeah, unless your car is new or exempt, they’ll need that. It’s pretty standard for out-of-state vehicles. You can get it done at certain service stations in MD.
Definitely check if they’ve received all your docs, and ask about taxes. You might get a credit if you already paid in FL. Could save you some $$.

Good point! I did pay sales tax in FL. Didn’t even think about that credit. Thanks!
Also, make sure your insurance is up to MD standards. They require certain coverage levels for registration. You can probably submit your insurance proof online too to speed things up.

Yeah, I have insurance in MD already, but I wasn’t sure about the exact coverage requirements. I’ll double-check. Thanks!
If you’re near LaVale, you can reach out directly to the MVA there to confirm the paperwork status. They might also have online appointment options to help with this.

I’m actually hoping to speak to someone there before they close. Do you know if they’ll help this late?

It’s worth trying! They usually have extended hours or a way to connect quickly. Just give them a call before they close, or try the website.
