Hey everyone, I’m retired USAF and have Tricare for Life (TFL). My doctor recently told me I’d need a new type of ID card for Tricare to pay them. Apparently, without this updated card, they can’t process the payments. I haven’t contacted Tricare yet… anyone else dealt with this? What’s going on?
Yeah, I’ve heard about this. Some providers are requiring the updated TFL cards because the old ones don’t work with their systems anymore.

Ah, makes sense. Do you know how to get the updated card? I haven’t reached out to Tricare yet.

You can get it through the DEERS system. Just log in and request the updated card, or visit a local office.
Wait, what’s DEERS? I’ve never heard of that before.

It’s the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System. It’s where your Tricare info is stored. You can manage your benefits there.

Got it, thanks! I’ll look it up. Didn’t realize Tricare had this whole setup lol.
Honestly, I’d just call Tricare directly. They’re usually helpful with stuff like this.

Good idea, I’ll give them a call. Thanks!
I had to do this a few months ago. Took about two weeks to get my new card after I updated my info in DEERS.

That’s not too bad. Did you have to go in-person or was it all online?

All online for me, but you can go in-person if it’s faster. Check for a local DEERS office near you.
FYI, some providers are just slow updating their systems. Might be worth asking your doctor if it’s really necessary.

True, I’ll double-check with them too. Thanks for the heads-up.
