I need to apply for a handicap placard in California. I was told to fill out the DMV application form and my doctor will complete their part. Does anyone know if I can just fill out the form online or do I need to go in person? Any tips on getting this done quickly would be great!
Yeah, I had to do this a few months ago. You can fill out the DMV form online, and then just have your doctor sign their section. It’s pretty simple but make sure you get the right form, or it can delay things.

Oh, awesome! I wasn’t sure if I had to go in person or not. I’ll just make sure to get the right form. Thanks!
I had the same question! You don’t need to go in person, but just double-check that your doctor fills out their part correctly. I’ve heard some people get delayed because the doctor doesn’t fill it out completely.
@Reeve
Yeah, I’ll definitely make sure my doctor fills out everything right. I’m hoping this goes smoothly, lol.
Here’s the link to the form you’ll need for California: DMV Form. You can do most of it online, but you’ll need to mail it in once it’s all filled out. Hope that helps!
@Blair
Thanks! This is super helpful. I’ll check out the form now. Appreciate it!
Just a heads-up, if your doctor hasn’t already signed the form, you might want to remind them that they need to include their specific certification. I almost had a delay because of that!

Good to know! I’ll make sure to get that part done properly. Thanks for the tip!
You can find more info on the whole process here: DMV Process Info. It goes over everything step-by-step, and it’s super easy to follow.
@Dane
Perfect, I’ll go through that link. Looks like everything I need is here. Thanks again!
