Anyone know how to check the status of my Alabama driver's license... what should I do?

I moved to Alabama about 4 years ago, and a police officer suspended my driver’s license for some reason. I don’t remember the exact date, but I’m trying to get my license back and not depend on other people to drive me around. It looks like my suspension might end on 11/01/2026. How do I check if it’s been lifted? I’m really struggling with this whole process, and I just want to get my license again. Any advice?

Hey, I’ve been through something similar. To check if your suspension has been lifted, you should visit the Alabama Department of Public Safety (DPS) or the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). They have an online service where you can check the status of your license. You’ll need your license number or some personal info to check.

If you prefer talking to someone in person, you can also visit one of the ALEA driver license offices. They should be able to tell you exactly what’s going on with your license and give you next steps if you need to complete anything before your suspension ends.

Just FYI, if you haven’t already, you might need to pay fines or provide documents to clear up any issues before your license is reinstated. It depends on why your license was suspended in the first place, but they’ll let you know what’s required.

Totally get how frustrating that must be. I think once you confirm the suspension is lifted, you’ll be good to go. Hopefully, it’s just a matter of waiting until November. Let me know if you need any more details!

One more thing: if you do end up having to visit the ALEA in person, it’s always a good idea to call ahead and confirm the docs you need. Sometimes they ask for stuff you didn’t expect, and it’s better to be prepared.
