Hey everyone, I’m looking to connect with a military lawyer. I might be facing administrative separation from the military and could be discharged. I haven’t consulted a lawyer before and was wondering if anyone has tips on how to get started. Online chat would be my preferred way to talk. Anyone been through this or know what to do?
I had a buddy go through something similar. He reached out to JAG for help. Have you tried that?

No, I haven’t. Is JAG the military legal team or something?

Yeah, exactly. They’re the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. They handle legal stuff for military members.

Thanks! I’ll look into that. Appreciate the info.
If JAG can’t help, you might need a civilian military lawyer. They specialize in cases like admin separation.

Good to know. Are civilian military lawyers easy to find?

Yep, a quick online search should bring up a list. Just check reviews to make sure they’re good.

Got it. I’ll do some research. Thanks for the advice!
IDK about online chat specifically, but a lot of lawyers do free consultations over Zoom these days.

That’s a great option. Do I need to prepare anything before the consultation?

Just have any documents or info about your case ready. They’ll guide you through what they need.

Perfect, thanks! I’ll get everything together before I reach out.
What’s the reason for the admin separation? That might affect the advice you get.

I’d rather not get into specifics here, but it’s nothing criminal. More like performance-related stuff.

Gotcha. Makes sense to keep it private. A lawyer will definitely be able to help with that kind of thing.
FYI, admin separations can go on your record, so getting a good lawyer is really important.

Yeah, I’ve heard that. Hoping a lawyer can help me avoid that outcome.

For sure. Stay on top of it, and you’ll be fine. Good luck!
