Anyone know how to find out who grazed my car... without involving the police?

So someone drove past my car, grazed it, and just drove off. I don’t want to get the police involved since it’s a small thing, but I’d love to know who did it. Anyone have any tips on how I can figure out who the driver is? I just wanna know, not looking for trouble or anything.

I had a similar thing happen once. The problem is, unless the vehicle owner is willing to tell you, or if there’s surveillance footage, there’s not much you can do. In some places, you can ask the local authorities or traffic office to look up the number plate, but they usually only give that info to law enforcement.

You could also just ask around the neighborhood. Sometimes, people know who drives certain cars in the area. But yeah, getting official info about the car isn’t something you can really do without going through the right channels.

Another option could be asking the local vehicle registration authority if they can give you the info. It’s possible, but not likely, especially if they know you’re not filing a police report. I’d say go with asking around first.

I totally get why you don’t want to go the police route. If the damage is small, it might not even be worth the hassle. But just make sure you don’t try to get the info on your own, like checking registration through unofficial means—that could cause problems for you.

If it happened in a public place, there could be security cameras nearby. Maybe ask some shops or buildings around there if they have any footage. That might be your best bet if you want to get the license plate info.
