Anyone know how to get a military lawyer for a scam?

Hey, I’ve been trying to reach a military lawyer all day and IDK where else to turn. I’m pretty sure I got scammed by someone claiming to be in the Army. It’s messed up because I’m already dealing with being homeless and having mental health struggles. Does anyone know where I can start with this?

That sounds rough. Have you tried contacting the FTC? They’re pretty good for reporting scams, especially military-related ones.

Oh, FTC? Never thought of that. Do I just Google them or is there a special number or site?

Yeah, just Google ‘FTC report a scam’ and it’ll take you to the right place. It’s pretty straightforward!

Do you have any evidence, like messages or emails? That can really help when you’re making a report.

I think I have some messages. Just screenshots though. Is that enough?

Yep, screenshots are good. Save everything just in case. You might need it if this goes further.

You could also try finding a lawyer through the state bar or even an online directory like Avvo. They have reviews and stuff.

Cool, I’ll check Avvo. Didn’t know they had military lawyers on there too.

Just so you know, a lot of military scams happen online. If this person asked for money or personal info, that’s a red flag.

Yeah, they did ask for money, said it was for some ‘deployment fee’ or something. I feel so dumb now.

Don’t feel bad, it happens to a lot of people. Reporting it is the right move.

If you’re homeless, there might be local legal aid services that can help for free. Have you looked into that?

Not yet, but I’ll check. Do they cover scams like this too?

Yeah, most legal aid places handle a variety of issues. Just explain your situation when you contact them.
