Anyone know how to rejoin a different American Legion post after moving?

Hey all, I’m looking to renew my membership with the American Legion (membership number 10246527) but would like to rejoin the Post on Shelbyville Road. I moved to Florida, joined there, then came back to Kentucky about a year ago. I’m not sure how to go about switching posts. Any advice on what I need to do to get that sorted?

I think you should contact the national headquarters of the American Legion. They should be able to help you change your post affiliation. Just make sure to mention your membership number and your recent move!

Yeah, same here! I moved around too and had to do the same. It was pretty straightforward once I spoke to them.

Nice, good to hear it was easy for you. I’ll reach out to them today. Hopefully, it’s as smooth for me too.

If you’ve moved back to Kentucky, I’d suggest calling the Shelbyville Road post directly. They might need to update your records and confirm you’re a local member. They’ll probably ask for proof of your new address.

@Cass
Thanks, that helps! I’ll give them a call soon. I just didn’t know if I needed to go through national first.

FYI, the renewal process can usually be done online through the American Legion website, so you might want to check that out too. That way you can handle it from wherever.

Good to know! I wasn’t sure if the post’s website would let me do that. Thanks for the tip!

I had the same issue when I moved. It took a little time, but once I got in touch with the post, everything went pretty smoothly. Just be ready with your membership number and any other details they might need.

@Wynn
Appreciate the heads up. I’ll make sure I have everything ready when I reach out.

Just a heads up, you might need to settle any dues from your previous membership period if you haven’t already. Double-check with the post to make sure your account is up to date.

Thanks for mentioning that! I wasn’t sure if I had any pending dues from my time in Florida. I’ll check on that.
