Anyone know if a truck length ticket will affect my CDL?

I’m a truck driver and got a ticket last August for over length in California. I’m wondering if I pay the ticket, will it affect my CDL? Is it considered a moving violation? Any help would be appreciated!

Hey, I had a similar issue a while back. It doesn’t seem like it’s considered a moving violation, so it shouldn’t affect your CDL. But it’s good to double-check.

Same here! I had a weight violation, and it didn’t hit my CDL, but I did make sure to check the specific law. Definitely look it up!

IDK if it’s the same, but my buddy got a length violation and it didn’t cause any points. It was just a fine. Hope that helps!

I think you should check the exact law—California is tricky with these things. I looked it up before and found a specific statute that applies to overlength vehicles.

Do you remember what the statute was? I’m having a hard time finding it.

It was VC35401(a) if I remember correctly. Check that one out—it might clarify things for you!

I wouldn’t stress too much about it affecting your CDL. I’ve been told it’s not typically a moving violation, but I’d still check with a California attorney to be sure.

I agree, just to be safe. A second opinion might clear it up for you. You don’t want any surprises!

Yeah, check out the full code or maybe reach out to a California lawyer to get a clearer answer on this one. Don’t wanna risk it!

That’s what I’m thinking too. I’ll look up the code again and maybe get a consultation if needed.

Thanks, everyone! I’ll double-check the law and maybe ask for a second opinion from a CA lawyer just to be sure.

You got it, good luck with it!
