I’ve been a federal technician for 22 years, now on an AGR tour. I’ll hit 20 years in AGR at 56.5. Does anyone know if I’ll be eligible for both pensions?
Yeah, I think you can get both. As long as you meet the retirement age requirements, both should be an option.

That’s what I thought! I just wasn’t sure if 56.5 would be the right age to start drawing both.
@Remy
Usually it’s closer to 60 for AGR retirement if I remember right, but you should still be able to get both.
Are you under FERS? If you did 22 years there, I think you’ll be eligible for that plus your AGR benefits.

Yep, I was under FERS for 22 years before switching to AGR. Sounds like I should be eligible for both then.
FYI, there’s something called ‘dual compensation law’ that explains how this works. Pretty sure you can collect both when eligible.

What’s the dual compensation law? Is it specifically for federal jobs?
@Lane
Yeah, it’s about drawing both civilian and military benefits. Basically lets you get both if you meet the requirements.
You might still need to check if AGR benefits kick in at 60, even if you’ve got 20 years by then.

Good point! I’ll double-check that age requirement to make sure.
Planning for retirement can get confusing. Maybe reach out to a retirement specialist who knows about federal and military pensions?

Not a bad idea! I’ve been trying to figure it out, but might need more help on the specifics.
