Anyone know what to do about landlords delaying repairs?

So my landlord has been dragging their feet on two major repairs for over 2 years now. We’re just tired of waiting and are thinking about taking this to court. Anyone else dealt with this? What should I do?

Ugh, I’ve had the same problem. My landlord kept making excuses until I sent a formal written notice. Have you tried that?

Nope, we haven’t sent anything formal yet. Might be a good idea though. Thanks!

Yeah, definitely do that! Written notices help create a paper trail, so if you need to escalate, you’ve got proof.

You might also want to check if your city has a code enforcement office. They can inspect and force the landlord to fix stuff if it’s not up to code.

Oh, really? I didn’t know that was a thing. I’m in Gastonia, NC. Wonder if there’s something like that here…

@ABC Yep, there is! Look up the City of Gastonia Code Enforcement Division. They’ll help if it’s a safety issue.

Have you checked with Legal Aid? They can give free advice or help with landlord-tenant issues.

FYI, they’re super helpful. Contact Legal Aid of North Carolina. They’ll guide you on what your options are.

Good to know! Do you have their contact info?

Just look up Legal Aid of NC online, but their site should have a contact number or office locations.

If it’s been 2 years, you’re more than patient. Maybe time to take legal action.

That’s what we’re thinking… We’re just tired of being ignored.

Make sure you’ve documented everything. Like dates, photos, and communication logs. Super important!
