I’m trying to get an identification card from the DMV but I don’t have any of the usual IDs like a driver’s license or passport. I do get checks from SSI and have electric company receipts. Can I use those to get an ID card? Anyone know what the DMV accepts?
I think you can use other forms of ID like a utility bill or government mail. It’s definitely worth checking the DMV website though. They have a list of what counts for ID cards in your state.
If you haven’t checked already, the DMV website should have all the info you need. They even have downloadable PDFs listing all the acceptable IDs for different types of cards. It helped me when I needed to get an ID a while ago.
I had to do the same thing and used a utility bill as proof of address. I also showed my SSI checks, and they accepted them. But I’d still double-check the requirements online just to be safe.
I’ve been there. You don’t necessarily need a SSN or passport. Sometimes even a school ID or medical records can work, depending on where you are. Best bet is to check the DMV’s guidelines for your specific state.
The DMV website is the best place to go for this. If you’re in New York City, they have a detailed page with everything you can use for ID. Here’s the link: https://dmv.ny.gov/forms/id44.pdf. Hope that helps!
