Anyone think their lawyer is just dragging things out for money?

So, I’ve been working with this lawyer for a while now, and I’m starting to feel like he’s not really working in my best interest. A lot of stuff has been dragging on, and when I ask about things, he just avoids my questions or gives vague answers. The most recent issue is he waived my right to a speedy trial without telling me. I don’t know, I’m starting to feel like he’s more about the money than actually helping me. Anyone else dealt with a situation like this? What do I do next?

Ugh, I had a similar issue with my lawyer once. It’s super frustrating when they don’t communicate. Have you asked for a new lawyer yet?

Not yet, I’m still figuring out if I can trust what he’s been saying. I think I might need to replace him, though.

@Sam
Yeah, it’s a tough call. But if you feel like he’s not looking out for you, it might be time to find someone else. It’s your future on the line.

Sounds like your lawyer might be in over his head. I’ve heard if a lawyer waives your right to a speedy trial without telling you, that’s a big issue. Definitely worth looking into.

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I wasn’t even told about the waiver until after it happened. Makes me think he’s hiding something.

You should check with the Florida Bar to see if they can help with your case. If you think there’s malpractice, they can investigate it for you.

I didn’t even think about that! I’ll look into it. Thanks for the tip!

What’s the deal with the speedy trial thing? I don’t really get it. Can your lawyer just waive that without telling you?

So basically, yeah. If your lawyer asks for a continuance, it’s like waiving your right to a speedy trial. But they should let you know about it first.

Ohh, I get it now. That doesn’t sound right if he didn’t tell you. Definitely ask for a new lawyer, ASAP.

Yeah, honestly, if you’re questioning whether he’s doing the right thing, you might just want to get a new lawyer. Better safe than sorry, especially with your future on the line.

True, I guess I’ve been hesitant because of all the money I’ve already spent, but I can’t just sit here and hope he suddenly starts doing his job.
