Best way to beat a speeding ticket

Hey everyone, I got pulled over for speeding and need some advice. This is my second ticket ever, and I did a driving school last time. Can I still do it again? Also, if the cop doesn’t show up in court, does that help my case? The reason I was speeding is that a guy was tailgating me, and I sped up to get out of the way… then boom, got pulled over. Any tips?

Yeah, you can take driving school again if 24 months have passed since the last time. Helps with points, but won’t erase the ticket.

Wait, what are ‘points’? Like points on your license?

If the points don’t erase the ticket, is it even worth it? :thinking:

If the officer doesn’t show, the case might get dismissed, but it’s not guaranteed. Still worth showing up!

Do they often not show up? I’m kinda banking on that lol.

Depends on the officer and the court. Some skip, but don’t count on it. Better to have a solid defense.

Your exit being in the left lane isn’t really a defense, but if the tailgating was dangerous, mention it. They might consider it.

Yeah, but wouldn’t they say you should’ve stayed in your lane or something instead of speeding up?

@Zenith
Probably, but if the tailgater was legit dangerous, they might see it as mitigating circumstances.

If there were others going faster, it might be worth questioning why you were singled out. Could argue unfair enforcement.

Good point! But how do you prove that? Dashcam footage or something?

@Harper
Exactly. If you had a dashcam showing others speeding, it could help your case.

Just curious, can you appeal a speeding ticket before going to court?

Nope, you’d have to go to court to challenge it.
