My 4-year-old was terminated from daycare because he opened a door that led to the parking lot. The teacher wasn’t near the door when it happened, and I don’t understand how there weren’t any safety precautions in place. Has anyone else dealt with something like this?
That sounds rough, but yeah, they can technically terminate daycare services. It’s not illegal for them to do that.

Really? I thought they’d be liable since the teacher wasn’t paying attention.
@Beckett
They would’ve been liable if your kid got hurt, but since nothing happened, it’s not considered unlawful.
@Beckett
Also, some doors can’t have safety locks because of fire codes, so maybe that’s why there weren’t any precautions.
Seems like they let it slide the first time. Maybe they were concerned about it happening again.

Yeah, they did. But my son is only 4… should they really expect him to know better?
@Beckett
I get that, but some daycares have strict policies for safety reasons, especially with doors leading outside.
The teacher should’ve been watching closer. If your child opened the door, that’s on them for not supervising properly.

Exactly! I don’t think it’s fair to put all the blame on my kid when the teacher wasn’t even near the door.
@Beckett
100% agree. It’s a safety issue, and the daycare should take responsibility for that.
It’s possible they can terminate services, but it seems like there should’ve been better safety measures in place.

Yeah, I thought so too. I’m just frustrated they didn’t handle it better.
IDK, it feels like they’re covering themselves by saying it’s policy, but I think they should’ve put more effort into preventing this.

Exactly, it feels like they just took the easy way out by blaming my son.
@Beckett
Totally agree. They should’ve been more responsible with the door situation.
