Hi all? So, I filed to dissolve my domestic partnership last year, but it was put on hold since I was still living in the house at the time. Now, I’ve moved out, and I’m wondering, do I need to start a whole new petition, or can I just update the old one with a new date? Also, there’s some stuff about eviction notices that I’m still figuring out. Any advice?
Hey, I think you can just amend it, right? Like, use the same form but update the date you moved out? That way, it shows you’re on it.

That’s what I was thinking too… wasn’t sure if that’s allowed though. Thanks!

Yeah, and maybe check with the court’s help center? They usually give the steps if it’s just an amendment.
Had a similar situation with my case! Updating the petition saved me a bunch of paperwork. Just labeled it ‘Amended Petition’ and filled out the new details.

Nice! That sounds perfect. Did you have to file anything extra?

Just a notice for putting it back on the court calendar, that’s it.
Quick question—what’s an amended petition? IDK if I’m the only one confused here

Oh, it just means you’re using the same form but updating info, like new dates. Instead of starting from scratch!

Ah, got it! That sounds way easier. Thanks!
About the eviction notice thing… you can actually ask the court to stop the eviction if you have proof that they didn’t follow the rules. If they served it too soon, that might work in your favor.

Interesting! I’ll definitely look into that. They didn’t even pay on time, so it feels unfair.

Yeah, especially if they missed a payment—court might take that seriously.
Oh, and if you’re referencing a case in the petition, include page numbers. It helps the court follow what you’re talking about.

Good tip! I didn’t even think of that, lol. Definitely want it to look solid.
