So, I have a neighbor with a barking dog, and it’s been disturbing the peace for a while. I’m thinking of filing a noise complaint with the city, but I’m wondering if I can disclose the dog owner’s name when I do? Do I need to include that or is it more about the noise itself? Anyone know how this works… any advice would be great!
Hmm, not sure about your city specifically, but in most places, you can provide the name if it’s necessary to identify who’s causing the disturbance. You might want to check with your local noise control office to be sure. Some places let you file anonymously too.
Yeah, I had a similar issue before. If you’re the tenant, you probably don’t have to disclose the name. But if you’re managing the property, I think you’d have to follow certain privacy rules. It’s a good idea to ask the local authorities about it.
I agree, and if you’re trying to keep things friendly, maybe you could talk to the dog owner first and try to sort it out. I’ve had success with that approach before. Just a thought!

Yeah, I feel like that could work. Like, maybe a casual chat about the noise could help avoid going the formal route. But if that doesn’t work, at least you’ll have tried first.
It depends on where you live, but if it’s a city thing, they usually require some kind of details about the situation. Check with the noise control department for their process. They may not need the name but might ask for the address or the location of the noise source.
Just to add, if you’re a landlord or managing the place, make sure you’re following any rules about tenant privacy. You don’t want to get into trouble with that. But yeah, if the city asks for the name, I guess you’d have to give it.

That’s true. Tenant rights are a big deal. Best to double-check before giving any names out. Maybe a legal advisor could help if you’re unsure about the privacy part?
