Can I get VA benefits for hearing loss as a veteran musician?

I’m a non-retired veteran who served from June 1951 to October 1953 as a musician. I have hearing loss and sounds are really muffled for me. I haven’t applied for VA benefits before. Wondering if anyone else has had luck getting benefits for something like this?

Yeah, I think you could be eligible! If your hearing loss was from loud sounds during your service, you might have a good chance. I’ve heard that VA covers a lot for hearing-related issues.

That’s what I’m hoping! I was around music and loud performances a lot back then.

They do cover it, especially if it’s service-related. It might help to have medical records ready!

Have you thought about filing a claim? You can do it online, by mail, or at a VA office. They’ll need details on your service and your hearing diagnosis.

Thanks, good to know! I’ll get my medical records together and look into filing a claim soon.

If it’s service-connected, you might qualify for monthly payments and even free or low-cost hearing aids. VA hearing aids can be a big help!

Oh, that’s great news about the hearing aids! I really do need them.

For sure! And VA support is usually solid for hearing issues. Don’t hesitate to ask them for assistance.

Were you in touch with any organizations that help vets with VA applications? They can make the process easier and might know how to make your case stronger.

Not yet, but I’ll look into that. Any recommendations?

Check with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). They’re great with benefits help.

Even if your hearing loss isn’t fully service-connected, VA might still offer hearing evaluations and treatments. Worth a try!

I’ll definitely look into that. Anything to help with the hearing loss would be a plus.
